Our services
Cone Beam CT for Dental and Orthodontic Diagnosis
Cone beam CT uses x-rays to generate a three-dimensional image of the outside and inside of teeth, the jaw and surrounding bones, the nasal cavity and sinuses.
The x-rays are directed to your face in the shape of a cone – inspiring the procedure’s names – using specialised equipment. The equipment moves around your face, enabling a series of two-dimensional images to be captured from different angles. Our state-of-the-art technology compiles this information into a precise three-dimensional image that our radiologist uses to prepare a report.
Cone beam CT is used by dental professionals for a range of complex dental and facial cases including evaluation of the jaw and nasal cavity, diagnosis of dental conditions and causes of pain of unknown origin, and planning treatments and placement of dental implants. This procedure is only used when traditional dental x-rays are insufficient or unsuitable.
No preparation is required for cone beam CT; some items around your face and neck may need to be removed at the appointment – our radiographer will advise you at the appointment. We recommend arriving 5-10 minutes before your appointment to ensure that any questions can be answered and your referral can be checked.
It is important to us that your appointment is comfortable and anxiety-free. We have created welcoming and soothing waiting and examination rooms that feel more like home than a clinic.
When you arrive at Precious Health, you will be welcomed by one of our medical receptionists. At your appointment, our radiographer will introduce themselves, and take you to one of our welcoming and relaxed cone beam CT rooms. It will contain the cone beam CT equipment; chairs (including for accompanying family, friends, and/or carers); soft music; and beautiful plants and paintings. We will provide a wheelchair to assist with mobility on request.
Our radiographer will discuss with you which metal objects around your face and neck may need to be removed for the examination (including spectacles, hearing aids, jewellery, hairpins, and removable dental work). They will provide you with a box to place your belongings in. A gown will be provided where necessary.
Next, you will be invited to stand at the cone beam CT – please advise the radiographer if you would like assistance. You will be asked to place your head on a chin rest and bite down gently on a sterile plastic mouthpiece to keep your teeth and jaw in the right position. You will also be asked to keep your head and jaw still, so that high-quality images can be taken.
The equipment’s rotating arm will move around (but not touching) your face while the radiographer takes the images. It is a relatively quiet and quick process, taking a few minutes to collect in total. The radiographer will assess each image to ensure it is high quality. It is a non-invasive and painless procedure.
Throughout the appointment, the radiographer will talk you through the procedure, what is happening, and why. We encourage you to let us know if you have any concerns or feel uncomfortable at any time.
At the end of the appointment, you can put on anything that needed to be removed for the examination.
To ensure a smooth and efficient appointment, please bring the following:
- Your referral from your healthcare provider
- An up-to-date Medicare card
- Any relevant healthcare, pension, or student cards
For a seamless Medicare rebate, we recommend linking your debit card to Medicare beforehand to avoid any delays with refunds.
Your images will be carefully reviewed by one of our radiologists, and a detailed report will be prepared for your referring health practitioner within 48 hours (excluding emergencies).
The report will be sent directly to your referring provider via fax or email. To ensure timely follow-up and care, please have an appointment booked with your referring health practitioner to discuss your results.
Your safety is our highest priority at Precious Health Radiology. CBCT (Cone Beam CT) scans are a specialised imaging procedure that uses a focused X-ray beam to capture detailed 3D images. While this technology uses radiation, the exposure is minimal and carefully controlled to ensure safety without compromising image quality.
If you are pregnant or suspect you may be, please inform our radiographer. We will take additional precautions or recommend an alternative procedure to protect your unborn baby.
Our safety practices include:
- Thorough sanitisation of all CBCT equipment, beds, and chairs with medical-grade wipes after each appointment
- Radiographers wearing surgical masks during procedures
- Strict policies for staff to remain at home if experiencing cold, flu, or gastro-like symptoms
We ask all visitors to wear a face mask, which we can provide upon request. If you are feeling unwell, please reschedule your appointment to prioritise the health and safety of everyone in our clinic.
We are a licensed radiology clinic and work to maintain the latest regulations. Our radiographers and radiologists are licensed to perform scans and provide medical reports, respectively.
This service is bulk-billed for patients with a valid Medicare card.
For non-Medicare card holders, we accept the following payment methods:
- Cash
- All major credit cards
- EFTPOS
If you have any questions about fees or payment options, please feel free to contact our friendly reception team before your appointment.

We understand that it is sometimes necessary to cancel or reschedule – please call us to do so. Appointments not attended will incur a $20 administration fee, billed at your next appointment.
Please reschedule if you are experiencing any cold, flu or gastro-like symptoms.
Dental X-Ray (OPG) Services in Melbourne | Safe, Fast, and Accurate Imaging
- Orthodontic assessments
- Dental implant planning
- Wisdom teeth evaluations
- TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder assessments
Orthopantomograms (OPGs) use X-rays to create a panoramic, wide-view image of your lower face, teeth, and jaw. This imaging is non-invasive, quick, and highly effective for diagnosing dental and jaw-related issues.
Our advanced equipment moves gently around your face, capturing a series of high-quality, two-dimensional images from multiple angles. These images are then compiled using state-of-the-art technology into a detailed panoramic view, which our radiologist analyses to prepare an accurate diagnostic report.
Dental X-rays play a crucial role in maintaining your oral health. They help:
- Monitor the health of teeth, gums, and jawbones
- Diagnose hidden cavities and decay
- Detect gum disease, cysts, and tumours
- Identify fractures or abnormalities in teeth and jaw development
- Assist in treatment planning for orthodontics and oral surgery
Regular dental X-rays are a routine yet vital procedure for early detection and prevention of serious dental conditions, ensuring optimal care for your oral health.
No specific preparation is needed for dental X-rays. However, you may be asked to remove any items around your face and neck, such as jewellery, glasses, or metal accessories. Our radiographer will guide you through this process during your appointment.
To ensure a smooth experience, we recommend arriving 5-10 minutes early. This allows time for any questions you may have to be addressed and for us to confirm your referral details.
What to expect
At Precious Health Radiology, we strive to ensure your appointment is as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Our welcoming and calming waiting and examination rooms have been designed to feel less like a clinic and more like home.

Wheelchairs are available upon request to assist with mobility.

Your safety and well-being are our top priorities. Dental X-rays are a painless and non-invasive procedure. While they do use radiation, the exposure from a single dental X-ray is minimal—less than the amount typically received in a single day.

Our safety practices include:
- Sanitising patient beds and chairs with medical-grade wipes between appointments

General Ultrasound Imaging in Melbourne
- Abdominal and pelvic organs: liver, kidneys, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, and bladder
- Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions: muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints for injuries, inflammation, or tears
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT): assessment of blood clots in veins using Doppler ultrasound
- Thyroid and glandular health: evaluation of size, structure, or abnormalities in glands
- Vascular studies: blood flow and circulatory health
Ultrasound imaging is a safe, non-invasive procedure that uses low-power, inaudible sound waves to produce detailed, real-time images and videos of tissues and organs. This versatile technology can assess areas such as the heart, liver, breasts, muscles, tendons, and blood vessels.
The ultrasound probe sends sound waves into your body, which then reflect back as echoes. These echoes are captured and converted by our advanced technology into high-quality images and videos. These images are reviewed by our radiologist to provide accurate and reliable diagnostic reports.
Ultrasound is used to examine, diagnose, and monitor a variety of conditions, including:
- Pregnancy and fetal development
- Muscle tears, joint inflammation, and tendon injuries
- Lumps, growths, or abnormal masses
- Blood flow and clotting disorders such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
- Heart conditions and vascular health
Ultrasound also plays an important role in guiding procedures like injections and biopsies, ensuring precision and patient safety.
For most ultrasounds, no specific preparation is required. However, certain scans may require:
- Fasting for up to eight hours (e.g., for abdominal ultrasounds)
- Drinking water and holding your bladder for pelvic or pregnancy ultrasounds
Our medical receptionists will provide detailed instructions when you book your appointment, ensuring you are fully prepared for your scan.
We recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing to allow easy access to the area being examined. Arrive 5–10 minutes early to allow time for your referral to be checked and for any questions you may have to be addressed.
At Precious Health Radiology, we prioritise your comfort and aim to make your ultrasound experience as smooth and anxiety-free as possible. Our waiting and examination rooms are designed to feel welcoming and relaxing, more like home than a clinic.
When you arrive
You’ll be greeted by one of our friendly medical receptionists, who will confirm your details and assist with any questions. A sonographer will then introduce themselves and guide you to our comfortable ultrasound room, equipped with advanced imaging technology, a scanning bed, seating for family or carers, soft background music, and calming décor like plants and artwork. Wheelchairs are available upon request to assist with mobility.
During your ultrasound
- The sonographer will explain the process and advise which clothing or jewellery may need to be removed. A box will be provided for your belongings, and you’ll be offered an examination gown or sheet for privacy. Changing facilities are available, and assistance can be provided upon request.
- Depending on the procedure, you’ll be asked to lie or sit on the scanning bed. A water-based gel will be applied to the area being examined to enhance the quality of the images.
- The sonographer will gently move the ultrasound probe over your skin to capture images. Some pressure may be applied to improve image quality, which might feel slightly uncomfortable but shouldn’t cause pain. You may be asked to adjust your position, breathing, or bladder status for specific scans.
For procedures requiring a transvaginal ultrasound, the sonographer will provide a consent form and explain the process thoroughly. Privacy is ensured, with changing areas and the option to proceed only if you’re comfortable.
Duration of the procedure
Ultrasound scans typically take between 20–60 minutes, depending on the area being examined. Our reception team will inform you of the expected duration when you book your appointment. The sonographer will review each image during the scan to ensure they meet our high standards of quality.
After your appointment
Once the scan is complete, you’ll be provided with paper towels to remove the gel before changing back into your clothing. If you have any concerns or questions, we’re here to assist at any point during your visit.
To ensure a smooth and efficient appointment, please bring the following:
- Your referral form from your healthcare provider
- An up-to-date Medicare card
- Any relevant healthcare, pension, or student cards
For a seamless Medicare rebate, ensure your debit card is linked to Medicare to avoid delays in processing refunds.
If specific preparation is required for your ultrasound, such as fasting or drinking water, please follow the instructions provided when you booked your appointment.
At Precious Health Radiology, your safety and well-being are paramount. General ultrasounds are a completely safe, painless, and non-invasive procedure that uses sound waves rather than radiation, making it suitable for a wide range of diagnostic purposes.

Comprehensive Obstetric Ultrasound in Melbourne
- 3D/4D/HDLive ultrasounds, providing ultra-realistic images of your baby
- Heartbeat recordings, preserving the sound of your baby’s heartbeat
Ultrasounds use inaudible and low-power sound waves to capture detailed, real-time images and videos of unborn babies.
The ultrasound probe sends sound waves through your body, and records the returning echoes. Our state-of-the-art technology converts these waves into high-quality images and videos that our radiologist uses to prepare a report.
Ultrasounds reveal a wealth of information including the health and development of the unborn baby (or babies); their sex; an estimated delivery date; and evaluation of the blood flow in the umbilical cord, baby or placenta.
Minimal preparation is required. You may need to drink lots of water so your bladder is full for the scan so it is easier to see your unborn baby, or empty your bladder – our medical receptionist will let you know depending on the procedure. Please stay hydrated for one week before your scan by consuming 7-10 glasses of water daily, which enables better quality images.
We recommend wearing loose and comfortable clothing that can be easily moved to allow access to your belly. And, we suggest arriving 5-10 minutes before your appointment to ensure that any questions can be answered and your referral can be checked.

They will provide you with a box to place your belongings in, and an examination gown to wear or a sheet if appropriate. If needed, there are curtains behind which you can change. Assistance can be provided by request.
Next, you will be invited to lie on the scanning bed. Our sonographer will apply a water-based gel, which assists with the imaging, to your belly. The images usually take 5-40 minutes to collect; our medical receptionist will let you know how long it will take.

We are committed to minimising waiting times and creating a relaxed, boutique atmosphere for your visit. Our team works closely with your referring health practitioner to provide accurate and timely reports, helping to optimise your health outcomes.
General X-rays are a quick and non-invasive imaging procedure that uses a specific type of invisible light, known as X-rays, to capture detailed images of the inside of your body.
During the procedure, X-rays are directed through the part of your body being examined using specialised equipment. Different structures in your body, such as bones and soft tissues, absorb varying amounts of X-rays, creating contrast in the resulting image. This contrast allows our radiologist to analyse the image and prepare an accurate diagnostic report.
General X-rays are commonly used to diagnose and monitor a variety of conditions, including:
- Fractures and bone density issues
- Cancers and abnormal growths
- Bowel blockages
- Congestive heart failure
- The location of swallowed foreign objects
- The placement of surgical tubes, wires, or leads
This essential diagnostic tool provides valuable insights for your healthcare provider, helping to ensure accurate and timely treatment.
No specific preparation is required for a general X-ray. However, we recommend wearing comfortable clothing to allow easy mobility during the procedure.
Please aim to arrive 5–10 minutes early to allow time for your referral to be checked and to address any questions you may have before your appointment.
